Bio:

Dr. Haisheng Tan is currently an Associate Professor at University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). He received his B.E. degree in Software Engineering and B.S. degree in Management both from USTC with the highest honor. Then, he got his Ph.D. degree in applied algorithms at the University of Hong Kong (HKU). His research interests lie at Networking Algorithm Design and System Implementation. Recently, he is dedicated in online intelligence in edge computing, including cloud-edge-end collaborative storage, mobile computing task division, allocation, and scheduling, complex data flow routing and scheduling, service pricing and multi-party gaming. Dr. Tan has published a series of research results on the above topics in prestigious journals and conferences. He also received the awards of ACM China Rising Star 2017 (Hefei), the Distinguished Member of INFOCOM 2019 TPC, the Best Paper Award in WASA’19, CWSN’20 and PDCAT’20. He is a senior member of IEEE.

Abstract:

In typical application scenarios of edge computing such as mobile computing and AIoT, users, tasks, and data usually arrive online, i.e., the order or time of their arrivals cannot be known in advance. The network environment and the available computing resources are also dynamically changing in time and space. Moreover, in order to reduce latency, we need make real-time intelligent decisions. Therefore, online setting and online intelligent strategies are inherent needs and full of challenges in edge computing. In this talk, we will introduce our recent research results in theories and systems of intelligent edge computing, including the design, analysis and implementation of online intelligent strategies based on online approximation algorithms, online learning, and online gaming, as well as our edge computing platform implementation and applications.
